How Float Tanks Saved My Sanity During Quarantine

Sometimes the best thing to do is absolutely nothing

When I began trying this out in 2019, the intent was to find a radical way to stay away from my cell phone. In 2020, floating became the only way for me to feel as if I could press the pause button on the world for a change.

The champagne was poured and well wishes were said, suddenly like magic, the year 2020 was dead. It left as it came, a specter in the night, but God willing, 2021 won’t be such a fright.

By Friday morning, my world seemed almost completely different from January 1st a year prior. In January of 2020, I had a full-time job in media with great perks and a matching 401k to boot. Things were great, prospects were high, and then as February came, like many of you, I was taken for an insane ride.

From funerals to salary cuts, canceled projects to permanently postponed trips, the year essentially turned into everything we could ever fear. For every potential upside, there was a very real negative cost. Telework became the norm, and at first, seemed like a dream, but as home became work and work became my only focus, quickly this ideal situation turned into a cage of stress and paranoia.
